In a mixer grinder, add the red chillies, garlic cloves, vinegar, sugar and salt.  Grind to a smooth paste by adding 2 tablespoons of water.  Keep the paste aside.

Heat 2 tablespoons of butter or oil in a pan.  Once hot, add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds and saute for few seconds.  Then add 1/2 cup finely chopped onions and saute till the onions become translucent.

Then add the ground paste and mix well.  Cook on a low flame for 2 mins.  Then add paneer pieces and give a good mix.  Toss gently to coat the paneer pieces with the mixture.  Cook for another 1 minute on low flame.  (Do not overcook the paneer).  Then switch off the flame.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.  Serve chilli garlic paneer immediately hot or warm as desired.

NOTES/TIPS

Soak the paneer in warm water for 5 minutes, as it softens the paneer and gives good taste to the dish.
