HOW TO MAKE OR PREPARE MOONG DAL OR PASI PARUPPU RECIPE
Wash and soak moong dal for half an hour. After half an hour, drain the water.
Add 3 cups of fresh water to the dal and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the flame to medium and keep stirring once in a while. Cook the dal till soft and not mushy. Switch off the flame.
Strain the excess water and keep the cooked dal aside. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. Once it starts spluttering, add urad dal, red chillies, green chillies, asafoetida and curry leaves and saute till urad dal turns golden brown in colour.
Then add the cooked moong dal and mix well. Add turmeric powder and salt and combine together. Mix well. Finally add the grated coconut and mix it thoroughly. Cook for one more minute. Switch off the flame. Add few drops of lemon juice and mix well.
Healthy and delicious moong dal is ready to be served.
NOTES/TIPS
You can also use coconut oil instead of cooking oil for a unique and enhanced taste. But it is optional.
Ensure that the dal is soft and not too mushy.
