Chana and moong dal kheer recipe

Chana and moong dal kheer is a very simple recipe which can be done quickly from the available ingredients at home. It is a very tasty kheer which can be prepared on special and festive occasions and use of the dals makes it more healthier. Try making this delicious kheer!!

Ingredients

  • Chana dal (split bengal gram dal) - 1/2 cup
  • Moong dal (split green gram) - 1/2 cup
  • Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Grated jaggery (gur) -1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cashewnuts and raisins for garnishing
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

HOW TO MAKE CHANA AND MOONG DAL RECIPE Wash and soak chana dal and moong dal with sufficient water for half an hour. IMG_4454

Step 2

Pressure cook the soaked chana and moong dal with water till immersing level for upto 4 whistles. IMG_4455

Step 3

Once the pressure is cooled down, drain the water and grind the boiled dals to a smooth paste. Do not add any water, as it boiled dals has got enough water content. Keep the paste aside. IMG_4456

Step 4

Heat a non-stick pan on a medium flame. Add ghee and stir fry cashewnuts and raisins till golden brown and set aside. IMG_4457

Step 5

Add ground dal paste to the same pan. Cook on a low flame for 2 minutes. Then add grated jaggery and give a quick stir. IMG_4460

Step 6

Once the jaggery is well combined with the dal, add milk and simmer the kheer on a low flame for 2-3 minutes. Add cardamom powder and mix well. IMG_4459

Step 7

Switch off the flame and add fried cashewnuts and raisins.

Step 8

Serve chana and moong dal kheer warm or cold as desired. IMG_4470

Step 9

NOTES : Add jaggery according to the sweet taste desired by you. After adding milk, do not cook/boil for a very long time. You can also add fried coconut pieces to the kheer for better taste. You can prepare this kheer without grinding the dals by just mashing them. But grinding to a paste gives a distinct flavour to the kheer.
