Tricolour idli recipe

A special tricolour idli to celebrate Republic day in true spirit.  A very easy to make and healthy idlis made from coriander leaves, mint leaves and carrot.


  • Idli batter - 2 cups
  • Coriander leaves - 1 bunch
  • Mint leaves - Few leaves
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Carrot - 2


Step 1

FOR GREEN IDLIS Grind coriander leaves, mint leaves and green chilly to a smooth thick paste and add to the idli batter. Coriander leaves gives a greenish colour to the idlis.

Step 2

FOR ORANGE IDLIS Cut the carrots into small pieces and grind them with little water to make a soft thick paste. Add this paste to the idli batter. Carrot gives a orange colour to the idlis

Step 3

Grease the idli pan with little oil and steam the colourful idlis and white idlis for 8 to 10 minutes.

Step 4

Serve tricolour idlis with sambar or coconut chutney and surprise your family on the independence day.
