Chana dal halwa

Chana dal halwa is an Indian sweet dish prepared from bengalgram/chana dal, jaggery, ghee and cardamom powder and garnished with chopped nuts. It is a delicious dessert which can be relished on special occasions.

Sweet modaka or ukadiche modak recipe

Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is a hindu festival and is celebrated as birthday of Lord Ganesha, the elephant headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Ganesha is the Lord of power and wisdom.
The festival lasts for 10 days ending on Ananta Chaturdashi. Devotees install idols in their homes and the idol is bathed with panchamrut, a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey and jaggery.
Ganesh Chaturthi is by all means a tribute to Lord Ganesha who bestows success upon worthy people.
Devotees make offering of coconuts, flowers and Ganesha’s favourite sweet modaka which is made up of rice flour,grated coconut and jaggery. Another popular dish is the sweet karanji or fried modak which I have already posted under festival dishes
So lets celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with this traditional recipe.

Karida kadubu or fried modak

Fried modak is a sweet deep fried dumpling stuffed with jaggery and coconut filling. Karida kadubu or fried modak is also called as karanji in Maharashtra. It is very popular and common in Karnataka and Maharashtra during Ganesh Chaturthi. The outer cover is made with all purpose flour and semolina and the inner filling is made with a mixture of grated coconut and jaggery.

Methi pulao or methi rice

Methi pulao or methi rice is a very delicious preparation made with fenugreek leaves, rice and mixed with spices. Fenugreek leaves is a good source of iron. It is a very healthy dish which can be had plain or served with curd or raita.

Sabudana khichdi recipe

Sabudana khichdi is an Indian snack made from sago, potatoes, peanuts and green chillies. It is more popular in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Sabudana khichdi is a favourite snack for people who are observing fast during Sankashti and festivals like Navratri. Sago is purely cabohydrate and has high energy content and hence it is an ideal food for people who are on fast. Adding peanuts to sabudana khichdi adds to the protein, vitamins and minerals content making it a complete dish.

Cucumber raita

Cucumber raita is a very cooling dish that is accompanied with various rice dishes like biryani, pulao, jeera rice or even rotis. Cucumber raita is also called as cucumber pachadi. It is made with curd, cucumber and seasoned with mustard seeds and spiced with green chillies. Cucumber raita is specially good when served with spicy curries. It is very easy and quick to make and serves as a cooling balance for various spicy dishes.
