Hagalkai gojju or bittergourd/karela gojju

Hagalkai or karela gojju is a traditional and simple curry recipe from Karnataka. This curry is served with hot rice and little ghee and it makes a sumptuous meal. Hagalkai gojju has a combination of sweet, spicy and tangy taste which goes well with both rice and rotis.

Sweet corn pulao

A complete meal by itself, sweet corn pulao is a very healthy and delicious rice dish. Corn is low in fat and has lot of vitamins including vitamin C and it is also high in fiber. Corn pulao is made with rice, corn and mixed with spices. It can be had on its own or served with raita or papads. Corn pulao recipe is easy to make and healthy too.

Ridgegourd or heerekai bajji is very traditional and popular snack especially in South India. It is made with ridgegourd vegetable, gram flour and spices and deep fried. A perfect tea time snack during monsoons,

Hagalkai kootu or bittergourd curry is traditional south indian curry made from bittergourd, tamarind and tur dal. Bittergourd curry is very delicious and healthy too. It is best served with steamed rice.

Nippattu or Thattai recipe

Nippattu is a very popular snack from Karnataka especially from Mysore and Bangalore. Nippattu is usually deep fried but can also be baked. It is a crispy and spicy snack which is perfect for tea time munching. This recipe is contributed by my close friend, Mrs. Usha Nayaka who also happens to be a Mysorean.

Capsicum paneer paratha recipe

Capsicum paneer paratha is a delicious North Indian recipe which is a healthy combination of capsicum and cottage cheese. It is best served with butter or pickles or curd.

Palak paneer

Palak paneer is a popular North Indian dish made with spinach and cottage cheese. A good combination of rich and healthy food and perfect accompaniment for rotis, naans and pulao.

White pumpkin yoghurt curry or poosanikai mor kuzhambu

White pumpkin yoghurt curry is a mildly spiced yogurt gravy and is best served with steamed rice. Ashgourd or white pumpkin has many medicinal and nutritional properties and is one of the healthy vegetables. White pumpkin is low on calories but high in water content and is ideal for weight watchers. It helps relieve frequent colds and aids digestion. White pumpkin yoghurt curry is a traditional south indian recipe using ashgourd and yoghurt.

Aloo bhindi

A north indian side dish made with potatoes and ladysfinger and cooked with spices. Aloo bhindi goes well with rotis, naans or parathas. It is a very delicious and healthy dish and is very easy to prepare.

Akki rotti

Akki rotti means rice pancake in Kannada. It is a rice based breakfast dish which is very popular in Karnataka. It is made of rice flour which is mixed with onions, green chillies, coriander leaves, chana dal, cumin seeds, salt and water and heated on a tawa/pan till light brown. Akki rotti is also served as an evening snack. This Akki rotti recipe has been contributed by one of my very close friends, Mrs. Usha Nayaka who happens to be a Mysorean.
