Green chutney (hari chutney) or coriander chutney recipe – green chutney recipe for sandwiches, chaats

Green chutney is a quick and easy chutney made with coriander leaves and mint leaves as the main ingredients.  It can be used for various chaat dishes or as a spread for sandwich .  Mint leaves gives freshness to the chutney and lemon juice enhances the flavours of coriander and mint leaves.  Green chutney is a versatile indian accompaniment that can be used in different ways.

Prep Time :  15 min

Servings : 3-4  persons

Indian cuisine


Coriander leaves – 2 cups

Mint leaves – 1 cup

Green chilliies – 2

Chaat masala – 1/4 teaspoon (optional)

Lemon juice-  half lemon

Sugar – 1/4 teaspoon

Salt to taste


Wash the coriander leaves and mint leaves thoroughly in running water.  Chop the green chillies roughly.

In a mixer grinder, add the coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies, chaat masala, sugar, salt and lemon juice.  Add little water and grind all the ingredients till smooth.  Remove the chutney in a bowl.

Use this green chutney as a spread for sandwiches or burgers. Serve green chutney with samosas, cutlets, vadas or tikkis.


You can add garlic cloves for enhanced taste.

Chutney tastes good when in medium consistency.  Adjust water accordingly as per your taste.  Do not make the chutney too thin or watery.

Sugar and lemon juice helps to retain the green color.

It stays good for 3-4 days when stored in the refrigerator.
