Ragi also known as finger millet is a rich source of iron, protein and calcium and fiber and helps in lowering cholesterol level. Ragi aids digestion and also makes your stomach full for a long time which is good for weight control. Ragi is also a staple diet in many villages across South India. It is a low fat cereal and among other health benefits, ragi is considered as a useful cereal for anemic patients. Regular intake of ragi prevents many health conditions such as malnutrition and premature aging.
Uppittu or upma is a very common and popular South Indian breakfast dish. Vegetable upma is prepared by dry roasting semolina and seasoned with spices and vegetables. It is served with coconut chutney or sambar. Vegetables like, carrot, peas, cabbage, tomatoes, onion are added to make it more nutritious and enhance its taste. Vegetable upma is a very healthy and delicious breakfast option and very easy to make too.
Capsicum paneer paratha is a delicious North Indian recipe which is a healthy combination of capsicum and cottage cheese. It is best served with butter or pickles or curd.
Akki rotti means rice pancake in Kannada. It is a rice based breakfast dish which is very popular in Karnataka. It is made of rice flour which is mixed with onions, green chillies, coriander leaves, chana dal, cumin seeds, salt and water and heated on a tawa/pan till light brown. Mallige is a kannada word. It means the jasmine flower. It is called as mallige idli because of the extra softness of the idli. Mallige idli is very famous in Mysore. Cooked rice and beaten rice(poha) is added while making the idli batter which gives that softness to idli.
Neer dosa is a popular dish of Dakshin Kannada region in Karnataka. Neeru means ‘water’ in kannada. It is called as neeru dosa because it is prepared from watery rice batter. No fermentation is required for making this dosa. It is very easy to make and tasty too.
